As the first game of the new Super League season approaches for the Huddersfield Giants, Fashion student Grace Sherriff is more excited than most to see the players run onto the pitch for the first time this year.
Grace, a student on the Fashion Design with Manufacturing, Marketing and Promotion course will witness the Giants warming up in a shirt designed exclusively by her. Thanks to the close ties between the Giants and the University, all Fashion students were invited to take part in a competition to design a brand new training shirt for the new season.
Says Grace: “I was inspired by the architecture on the Galpharm Stadium, home to the Giants, and took the idea of the big arches and transferred them onto the shirt, which worked really well.
“I was surprised to win, just because it’s strange sitting in the studio with everyone else’s designs all around you; you just never expect yours is going to be the one chosen!”
Grace’s shirt is already available to buy in stores, and fans will see it first hand in the Giants’ first game of the season, when they go head to head with Bradford Bulls on Friday 5 February.
