The School of Art, Design and Architecture offers the following courses:
September start
Architecture has been taught and studied in Huddersfield for over eight decades, since the founding of a School of Architecture in the 1920s by Norman Culley. Our Diploma in Architecture course (RIBA part 2) offers students the opportunity to expand their interests and agendas. It is undertaken after a year of practical experience and provides a route to full qualification as an architect. Our Sustainable Architecture MSc course is primarily for graduates in a discipline associated with the built environment such as architecture, civil engineering, planning, building services etc. Our MArch (with Interim award of Diploma in Architecture) is specifically designed to set a high base line of competence and knowledge for admission to corporate membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and for admission to the Register of Architects under the Architects (Registration) Act.
Please visit http://www.hud.ac.uk/ada/courses/subject/2/ for complete information about our existing Architecture courses.
September and January starts
These MA programmes endorse our mission statement and have been designed to respond to growing needs of internationalisation of the curricula, global markets and the importance of creativity aligned to commerce. The future of postgraduate art and design education will be moving to such commonalities within multi-disciplinary approaches. These MA programmes constitute the need for a common cross-disciplinary postgraduate delivery and as such has been specified to create common research collaborations.
The programmes will champion a project-based structured teaching approach with complementary relevant exploration of theory within real world contexts. It celebrates that art and design is a way of thinking and forming that can bring positive changes to our lives. Stress will be made to empathic and sustainable approaches. The new markets require professionals who can transcend disciplines. The MA programmes will enable students to make decisions, be creative, be confident and articulate, be worldly wise, cross-cultural and ethically work contributing positively to society.

The School of Art, Design and Architecture is very international with a tradition of the best education across a broad range of Art and Design subjects. Masters courses are mixed in their student community and there are common modules and lectures which are taught across many subject areas. You will be learning from international and British peers and from a challenging educational environment.
A mature student is normally considered to be over 22 years old and over, and in this case almost half our postgraduate students are. We often have students returning to education after a long period of time and others who are studying part-time hold down employment outside the University. Some have families to support and are unable to relocate so live outside the county. As long as you meet our entry requirements and we feel you are a suitable applicant for the course it does not matter if you have not been in education for some time or how old you are. We do everything we can to make you feel welcome and at ease as we understand it can be a challenging experience.
Students are now able to pay their fees on-line via the internet and this is the University’s preferred method of payment, whether by the student or by anyone making payment on the student’s behalf. In addition, the University will accept full payment of fees by cash, bankers draft, cheques or bank transfer.
