Find out what people at the University of Huddersfield thought when we asked them about an alternative patron saint for Saint George's Day 2010.
The University of Huddersfield established the Academy for the Study of Britishness in 2008 to promote study about identity in the UK and beyond. This interdisciplinary institute encourages debate about Britishness, drawing on expertise from the University’s politics, sociology, education, art, design and architecture, English, music and history departments.
The Academy’s activities will help to shape public discourse, provide a forum for intercultural exchange, help to build social capital on campus and in the local community, and engage with broader academic and policy formulating groups.
We are initiating a number of original research, conference and teaching activities and are developing an extensive network of contacts within and beyond academia.
The Academy seeks to position itself as an internationally-recognised resource centre concerning the pertinent issues of identity and citizenship.
