Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)

The KTP scheme has been running for over 30 years and consistently delivers excellent returns for all partners, with over 90% of companies who use KTP recommending the scheme to other businesses.

With an emphasis on transferring new knowledge and expertise into companies, the scheme is based around forming a relationship with an academic expert who works with you to define a project (typically focused on developing new products or processes) that will deliver significant strategic and commercial benefits. This project is then delivered by recruiting a graduate who works full-time at the company but also receives back-up from the academic expert.   Projects can run from 12-36 months and up to two-thirds of the costs are paid for by Government grant funding.

As well as getting a business critical problem solved, you also get an opportunity to develop and recruit a talented employee and around 75% of graduates on KTP projects are offered permanent employment by their host companies upon completion of the project, often in quite senior roles.

KTP's track-record in delivering business growth is very impressive with companies typically reporting turnover and profit growth well in excess of their original investment.  The University gains real benefits from its involvement with the scheme as the projects bring in additional research income and help to keep our academics familiar with current industrial thinking.  KTP also represents an excellent career opportunity for the graduates involved who gain substantial technical, management and interpersonal skills as a direct result of the their work.
