Working with our students

In Computing and Engineering we encourage and support our students in gaining industrial experience during their time at University, and this can be achieved through placements, part-time and/or vacation work, and through industry-focused projects as part of their studies.

Our students and graduates develop a rich mix of both technical and transferable skills, and can make a valuable contribution to companies, both during and after their studies.

There are a number of ways in which this talent can be harnessed by companies:

Student placements
Students spend 12 months on placement between their 2nd and 3rd year of studies and are employed during this period by their host company to do a real job. Companies benefit greatly from the energy and enthusiasm of bringing new talent into the organisation as well as gaining a fresh perspective on what they do.

Student and graduate recruitment
We can support you in recruiting students and graduates for part-time, vacation and permanent posts. More information for employers can also be found at our careers service website where this activity is coordinated across the University

Student projects
All our students at undergraduate and postgraduate level undertake project work as part of their studies and, where possible, we try to base this work on real industrial problems. As a consequence, we are always interested in project opportunities from companies.

See our case studies for practical examples of how we work with employers.
