
Dr John Fieldhouse has been named as one of five individuals to receive the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Lloyd L. Withrow Distinguished Speaker Award in 2009. This prestigious honour is conferred upon those speakers at SAE meetings who have received the Oral Presentation Award more than twice over the past years.
The award recognizes the late Lloyd L. Withrow, Head of the General Motors Research Laboratories Fuels and Lubricants Department, was an SAE Fellow and noted speaker at many SAE meetings. He was known for his continual insistence that those he supervised develop and demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Dr Fieldhouse has twice earlier received SAE Excellence in Oral Presentation Awards for presenting at the SAE Annual Brake Colloquium and Engineering Exhibition and for a third time at the SAE World Congress and Exhibition for his paper in 2008.
The paper has recently been selected to be amongst the most outstanding SAE Technical Papers of 2008 and will be published in the first volume of the SAE International Journal of Passenger Cars – Mechanical Systems. The paper was entitled “The Measurement and Analysis of the Disc/Pad Interface Dynamic Centre of Pressure and its Influence on Brake Noise” was co-authored by Dr Chris Talbot and Naveed Ashraf.
