Professor Blunt, who is the Director of Research within the School of Computing and Engineering, has been awarded the prestigious title following ten years of collaborative work with Halmstad University's Professor Bengt Rosen. As part of their drive to expand international relations, Professor Blunt was asked to become a Visiting Professor indefinitely at Halmstad University, bringing his twenty years of academic experience to the post.
A Professor in the Centre for Precision Technologies and an expert in Surface Metrology, Professor Blunt was keen to get involved with the Swedish University, whose research interests are similar to that of the ground-breaking work being done at the University of Huddersfield. He commented: "I am very excited to be appointed Honorary Visiting Professor at Halmstad, and proud to be a part of this collaboration between the two universities."
The Professorship will also give Huddersfield students the opportunity to visit Halmstad University, one of the youngest universities in Sweden which is often referred to as the 'Innovation University', due to its commitment to research and education. Its students will also be given the chance to visit Huddersfield, and experience first-hand some of the research being undertaken in the University's Centre for Precision Technologies.
