About placements
In the School of Computing and Engineering we encourage and support our students in gaining industrial experience and have a well staffed Placement Unit who are dedicated to assisting students and employers in finding the right match.
At the Placement Unit we aim to ensure that the process of recruiting a suitable student is efficient and direct. We will advertise your vacancy to the most suited students and supply you with CV's from those who match your requirements. We will also make interview arrangements, either on campus or at your place of work, and can offer any advice or assistance on related issues.
- Placements last for a minimum of 12 months, usually undertaken between July and the following September.
- Students should receive payment as they receive no other income during this period.
- The student should be regarded as a regular employee and undertake a real job of work with appropriate responsibility.
- The role the student undertakes will depend upon your needs, it may be an existing vacancy, to support a particular department or the student could take on a project that other staff may not have the time or skills for.
- We ask that the student is allocated a work supervisor and an academic staff member from the University would normally visit the supervisor to discuss the student's progress at various times throughout the year, so we will be in regular contact.
