About the course
This top-up course aims to provide a broad-based education in general business and management from a global perspective, helping to develop your understanding and awareness of operating in a global business environment and the role of managers, leaders and administrators in global organisations. It will also help enable you to develop a range of transferable skills for both the workplace and continuing professional development, adopt a global strategic perspective in order to reflect upon the needs of organisations to meet both short-term and long-term market conditions.

• Higher National Diploma or equivalent (eg two year advanced diploma level or comparable qualifications).
• A Foundation degree or 120 ECTS.
• For applicants whose first language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.

On this course you'll explore aspects of management and leadership at introductory and intermediate levels. You'll have the opportunity to develop your administrative skills alongside your understanding of organisational change and, as the course evolves, you'll be encouraged to develop an area of special interest through your choice of option modules.
Global Business Perspectives
Understanding business from a global perspective is an essential requirement for management students. The focus of this module will be upon global business organisations and how they operate in dynamic and challenging environments. Global businesses are affected by a diverse range of issues such as current events around the world, politics, ethics, sustainability and differences in cultures and belief systems. Businesses have to take into consideration and respond to such issues in order to operate successfully in different countries. In this module current management issues affecting global business will be critically evaluated to form the basis of the assessment. This will be achieved through the use of contemporary business case studies to engage students and allow them to develop their understanding of issues that face global business organisations.
Key Decisions in Managing Global Organisations
respect to key corporate, marketing, human resources and financial decisions, understand and critically analyse the complex inter-relationships between key areas of business activity and consider how organisations can be best structured and positioned to meet challenges in the global environment and also provide insights into key areas of decision making in the global work context.
People in Global Organisations
The module aims to develop a critique of sociological and psychological influences on people in organisations, encourage an exploration of management theory and practice and how this affects global organisations and consider organisational behaviour at the individual, group, organisational and global level whilst providing an insight into the changing world of work in a global context.

People Resourcing in Context
People Resourcing covers a wide range of people management issues from pre-employment (corporate and HR strategic planning, recruitment and selection), initial and continuing employment (socialisation, performance management), to release from employment (redundancy, retirement, exit interviews). The module will focus on the strategic elements of people resourcing and the contribution that these activities can make to organisational success and achieving a high performance workforce in a rapidly changing environment.
Management Work and Society in Context
In modern society work is important for economic and social wellbeing, playing a central part in our lives. This core module builds on management theory studied in year one, exploring contemporary issues in the workplace and how to deal with them from a management perspective. Topics on this module include the role of gender in the workplace, professional work, the globalisation of work, the labour process, unemployment and the future of work.
Leadership: Process and Organisations in Context
This module examines the challenges faced by those involved in leading and renewing organisations in today’s increasingly complex and dynamic national and global operating environments.
The module sees organisations and businesses as citizens and stewards who are equally bound by ethical responsibility as individuals are. Desired learning outcomes include appreciating the scope of ethical responsibility for leaders and followers and critically reflecting on ethical issues that arise in organisations.
The Psychology of Work & Organisations
This module will introduce you to psychological concepts and then you'll have the opportunity to learn, understand and appraise the application of psychological principles and theories to workplaces and organisations. This module will include a critical overview and discussion of personnel psychology, namely, theories of personality and psychometric testing and assessment centres. Furthermore, the module will help you to develop a critical appreciation of human behaviour in the workplace including the nature of employee behaviour, the extent to which the work environment contributes to the physical and emotional wellbeing of employees, group functioning, motivation and performance. Knowledge acquired from this module will provide a foundation for learners to pursue further study at postgraduate level in organisational behaviour, through enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of businesses from a psychological perspective.
Managing in the Knowledge Economy
In the last few decades knowledge has become recognised as a key resource for the successful growth and management of organisations. The growing importance of the knowledge resource to organisational success has led to the need for organisations to create and manage the distribution of this key resource. Knowledge Management and Organisational Learning are concerned with the challenges of generating, disseminating and institutionalising knowledge and learning through organisational systems, strategies and processes. This module will help you to explore the multifaceted nature of knowledge and learning within organisations, including organisational activities that generate knowledge and organisational barriers to knowledge creation and dissemination. This module explores the benefits of learning and knowledge management, in terms of competitiveness and productivity, and the benefits to the individual of adaptability, long-term employability and personal growth.
Digital And Social Media Marketing
Digital Marketing is a term which encapsulates the targeted, measurable and interactive marketing of products and services through the use of the internet. This module will investigate and explore a variety of digital and social media marketing tools and their implementation within a practical context. In addition this module will help develop your understanding of online consumer behaviour, organisational marketing strategy and online decision making through the use of Web analytics. You will also cover the practical aspects of online brand development and have the opportunity to gain an understanding of integrated marketing campaigns, search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media.

How much will it cost me?
In 2017/18, the tuition fee for UK and EU students at the University of Huddersfield will be £9,250.
