About the course
This specialist skills and post registration short course may be of interest to those health and social care professionals who would like to develop or enhance their leadership and management skills. It will assist you to develop the competences required to target resources, as well as lead and manage healthcare practice.
This course offers you the opportunity to:
• Develop your evidence based knowledge of leadership and management theories in order to underpin your practice.
• Explore the leadership and management strategies that can be drawn upon to ethically manage people and resources and effect change.
• Critically analyse the theories and strategies that can be used to motivate people.
• Develop your appraisal and report writing skills.
• Explore how healthcare services are developed and commissioned.
• Evaluate the health and social care practitioner's role in advocacy, lobbying and influencing healthcare provision.

You must be a health or social care professional with evidence of previous successful study at Honours level.
For applicants whose first language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, will be considered acceptable, or equivalent.

When you enrol as a student of the University, your study and time with us will be governed by a framework of regulations, policies and procedures, which form the basis of your agreement with us. These include regulations regarding the assessment of your course, academic integrity, your conduct (including attendance) and disciplinary procedure, fees and finance and compliance with visa requirements (where relevant). It is important that you familiarise yourself with these as you will be asked to agree to abide by them when you join us as a student. This short course may assist you to meet the specialist skills and post-registration development requirements stipulated by your employer/professional regulator and develop or enhance your leadership and management skills.
Teaching and assessment
You will be taught through a series of lectures, seminars and guided study, which will be supported by the University's virtual learning environment.
Assessment will include submission of a written assignment.
Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.
Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results.
