Entry Requirements

This student centered multi-disciplinary course will enable you to gain an educational teaching qualification and develop your individual professional interests. You will have the opportunity to analyse educational provision in health related professions and develop strategies for practice based health professional education. You will study the theories and processes of teaching and learning and then apply them to strategies within the field of health care. The teaching practice placement requirement is 60 days.
The course is taught for 24 weeks per year and you will complete your dissertation over the following summer. Part-time options are available. There are three main components to the course - education, research and specialisation.

Students progressing to an MSc need to produce a dissertation of 15,000 - 20,000 words which will demonstrate the ability to undertake research at postgraduate level.
There are a variety of theoretical assignments including essays and presentations. For teaching practice you will produce evidence of meeting specific standards and will be assessed on your teaching.
The course is designed to prepare you to teach health professionals and to apply research based knowledge to practice. Successful students are qualified to progress to appropriate health professional Higher Education or practice educator roles.
The practice placement requires you to accumulate 60 days (360 hours) of practice in a recognised health professional education setting (Higher Education or clinical education).
This course meets the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and the Higher Education Academy for those teaching in Higher Education. It does not enable you to register with the NMC as a nurse or midwife.
Professional Body Accreditation
Nurses, midwives and health visitors may achieve an approved teaching qualification and may be eligible for full membership of the Higher Education Academy.
