Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements are normally any one of the following:
Analytical Bioscience investigates the development and application of advanced analytical techniques in the area of biomedical sciences. The course will provide training in the methodological aspects of biology, which are important in many areas of drug discovery and design such as treatment for cancer and inherited disorders.
It investigates the interactions between potentially harmful chemicals and living organisms at the molecular and cellular level. The course also considers the possible sources of error in experimental and instrumental analysis to allow the correct interpretation of experimentally-derived scientific data. It is suitable for recent graduates who did not cover these areas in depth during their degree and for established bioscientists who wish to update their knowledge.
The course provides graduates with the opportunity to extend their knowledge in the area of analytical bioscience.
This postgraduate course is taught in a different way to an undergraduate course. Considerable emphasis is placed on independent learning and the assessment is mainly by individual assignment.
We offer the following modules:
We have had an average of over 20 graduates a year since 1994 from the MSc in Analytical Science courses. The majority have obtained employment in industry with a smaller number undertaking academic research leading to a PhD.
Most of the major pharmaceutical/bioscience and chemical companies in the UK employ our graduates as well as smaller companies and research institutes. Many graduates gain promotion within the company within a few years of graduating.
Unfortunately we do not have any loans or bursaries for UK or EU citizens. However, applicants may apply for a Career Development Loan before they accept a place on the course. Please use the following link: http://www.direct.gov.uk
There are also a number of Patrick Stewart Scholarships available and other schemes for well qualified international students.
See: http://www.hud.ac.uk/international/scholarships.htm
Part-time students may be able to get funding and expenses from the Royal Society of Chemistry if they are members of the RSC. See: http://www.rsc.org
The course is designed to train you in the scientific method in relation to the area of analytical bioscience, extend your interest and knowledge in all areas of the subject and provide vocational support.
As most of our students aim to improve their employment prospects the syllabus is closely matched to current industrial needs. We also provide additional assistance in finding employment.
You can also request a printed prospectus by filling in our web form, and have it delivered to your address.
