Entry Requirements
You should hold an Honours degree or equivalent professional qualification and preferably have some experience of working within a business environment.
This excellent course has been designed to offer you something unique from other courses specialising in project management. The course is underpinned by a breadth of core management areas necessary to effectively manage and lead projects. This course therefore not only develops and enhances your knowledge and understanding of project management, but also general management.
Importantly, this course has your personal and professional development very much in mind and you will be equipped with a range of professional skills, including consultancy skills, that will enable you to offer something distinctive and attractive to potential employers.
Although the course has been primarily designed for students who have not already studied in the area, it is equally applicable for students who wish to develop further cutting edge expertise in project management.
Whilst theoretically robust with an emphasis on applied critical thinking and analysis, this Master's programme is grounded in real world issues. Throughout the programme extensive use is made of real world problems and, where possible, you will be exposed to real business problems and issues. The focus of this course is the development of the hands-on project managers and leaders of tomorrow.
Due to the innovative and flexible course structure, at the end of the first term you may have the opportunity to switch to the general management course or even one of the other specialist routes within this, such as marketing management, e-business or entrepreneurship.
This course has been designed to capture the essence of contemporary project management. The course consists of a series of compulsory modules exploring general management areas, as listed below, before you will then progress on to more specialised Project management modules:
The highlight of this course is the opportunity for you to study and research a project management topic area of your choice in the form of a practical project. Previously students have based their projects on topics that will help with their career choices or subjects they have enjoyed studying during the course. In some cases projects can result from our extensive contacts with the business community.
The varied subject modules are studied in a range of ways including seminars, tutorials and lectures, case studies etc. Modules have different teaching and assessment strategies, so some modules are based on individual work and others on group work. All teaching and assessment is grounded in real life situations and, where possible, live projects are incorporated into the teaching and use is also made of guest speakers. The development of your professional management skills is also a priority.
