In addition to the University general minimum entry requirements, you should have a pass at grade C or above in GCSE Mathematics and one of the following:

  • A2, AS levels, AVCE or International Baccalaureate: 220 points.
  • BTEC National Diploma or Certificate: MMP.
  • Entry is also possible from the School's Engineering Foundation Year.

Introduction

This course aims to provide education and training in the use, specification, procurement, operation and management of Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems. It is one of a range of courses aimed at students without specialist mathematical expertise or scientific education beyond GCSE but who are interested in technology and wish to work in technologically related areas. The course provides excellent career preparation.

  • Manufacturing and Workshop Practice

Year 2

  • Manufacture and Enterprise
  • Engineering Design Principles
  • Manufacturing Technologies and Materials
  • CAD/CAM
  • Accounting for Managers

Year 3 Sandwich

  • An Industrial Placement is recommended and arranged through the School's Industrial Placement Unit

Year 3 Full-time/Year 4 sandwich

  • Project, Quality and Production Management
  • CAD Systems and CAD Management
  • Advanced Design
  • Structured Innovation and Creativity
  • Final Year Project

Teaching and Assessment

Teaching is by lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory and project work. Assessment is by assignments, examinations, in-class tests and presentations.

Career Opportunities

Opportunities exist in management and operation of CAD systems, applications engineering, technical sales and training.

Placement

The work placement provides the opportunity for you to integrate the skills and knowledge learned during your studies. You will gain experience, maturity and motivation and return better equipped to succeed in securing the graduate job of your choice.

The dedicated Placement Unit will identify and make available placement opportunities. They also assist with tasks such as CV preparation and interview skills.
