  • 220-280 points which must include -
    • Two 6-unit awards or one 12-unit award.
    • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above.

Introduction

Every day each of us is bombarded with a huge variety of promotional messages and it is becoming more and more difficult for brands to stand out in an increasingly crowded marketplace. This course focuses on the development of effective advertising and marketing communications which are key to achieving an organisation's marketing goals.

The course combines a solid marketing foundation with specialist study of advertising and its integration into the modern relationship-led interactive communications culture. It traces the expansion of new media and the challenges of contemporary communications management.

The course covers the key functional areas of advertising, public relations, sponsorship, direct and interactive marketing, sales promotion and personal selling. It also explores the use of the media including multimedia and the Internet.

Year 3 Sandwich

  • Optional Work Placement Year
    You will have the opportunity for a paid work placement in a marketing role in a range of local, national and international companies.

Teaching and Assessment

We use a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, assignments, exams and individual project work, with a strong focus on practical work.

Our varied assessment methods are focused upon the development of transferable skills which will provide immediate benefit in your future career.

Career Opportunities

The vast majority of our marketing graduates find jobs in a field of their choice within six months of graduating. Typical first destination positions include - advertising account handler, public relations executive, direct marketing executive, assistant campaign manager, sponsorship and promotions assistant, marketing communications manager and events marketing executive.

Placement

Opting for a placement year can improve your graduate earning potential and vastly improve your chances of a better degree classification. Business School students who completed a placement year were three times more likely to achieve a 2:1 or 1st degree award than those students who didn't (TQEF Survey 2006).

Companies offering placements in a communications field include Poulter Partners Agency, Media Principles, Affinity Solutions, JDA Group, Wilson Harvey Agency, Morgan Kai Agency.

Special Features

Professional Body Accreditation

The degree offers some exemption from nationally recognised professional awards offered by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and the Institute of
Direct Marketing (IDM).

The Marketing Society (MSoc) is run by students for students and acts as a social network bringing together first, second and final years. Members attend events with external speakers including leading academics and business leaders. MSoc also makes donations to local charities such as the Laura Crane Trust through a variety of fundraising activities.
