Introduction

This course builds on key business and management skills needed for today's leaders to survive in a dynamic business environment.

The course focuses on the development of your employability skills in the context of management and leadership. The core subjects in the first two years provide a solid grounding in the basic business subjects.

The final year focuses specifically on management and leadership and facilitates development in key employability and management skills areas, including leadership, team working and communication skills.

These core areas are delivered in a stimulating manner that enables you to meet any challenges that you may face when joining an organisation. The third year provides an opportunity to specialise in an exciting management or leadership area that will enhance employment prospects.

Throughout this course, you will gain the business management skills and knowledge required to meet the demands of a globalised and dynamic business world. The course also provides exemptions from sections of a range of professional examinations and full exemption from the Chartered Management Institute's Level 4 Diploma in Management.

Career Opportunities

The course has an excellent employability record. Our graduates are qualified to enter a wide range of occupations and organisations looking for tomorrow's leaders, managers and administrators.

Many graduates go on to positions in general management or administrative roles, not only within the traditional businesses and commerce sectors, but also within SMEs and Not for Profit organisations.

A number also start up their own business, capitalising on the skills and knowledge gained throughout their studies.

Placement

The work placement year provides you with an opportunity to improve your future career prospects and develop practical skills and experience in the workplace. Opting for a placement year can vastly improve your chances of a better degree classification. Business School students who completed a placement year were three times more likely to achieve a 2:1 or 1st degree award than those students who didn't (TQEF Survey 2006).

Companies recently offering placements to students include Hewlett Packard, BMW, BHS and Ronseal.

Special Features

Professional Body Accreditation
We are an approved centre of the Chartered Management Institute. In the final year student membership of the Chartered Management Institute is an integral optional aspect of the course, providing the opportunity to enhance your CV and obtain a professional qualification without any additional assessment.

The degree may also lead to exemption from some of the assessments for other professional bodies, such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.
