Entry requirements for this course are normally the following:

  • 200 to 260 points depending on subjects from A level, Vocational A level, or equivalent. In addition you must have GCSE Mathematics at grade C or above.
  • BTEC National Diploma: DMM.

Introduction

The UK has a large and vibrant games development industry and our close links with local and national development companies help us to ensure that the course content closely matches the skills required to work in the industry.

On this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to work as a programmer in one of the most challenging development environments - computer games. As the course progresses you will specialise in subjects that are core to the success of the games industry - graphics, AI and Physics - whilst developing the project and team skills which will make you a valuable member of a development team.

Teaching and Assessment

The majority of modules are taught in small classes in a studio environment.
The majority of assessment is through course work submission.

Career Opportunities

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to work as a games programmer, systems analyst, software developer and tools programmer. Our recent graduates have gained employment UK wide with such companies as Rockstar UK Ltd, Rebellion Studios and ZOO Digital.

Placement

The School of Computing and Engineering encourages all students to undertake a placement year where you can integrate the skills and knowledge learned during your studies. On placement you will find yourself working as a junior games programmer using a wide range of technologies ranging from Next Generation Consoles to Mobile Devices.
