Entry requirements for this course are normally the following:

  • 120 points which must include one pass at A level or Vocational A level, or equivalent.
  • Additional requirements for this course are normally GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English.

The University adopts a flexible approach to admitting students with non-standard qualifications; in particular students with appropriate work experience.

Note: Mathematics and Computing A levels are not a compulsory entry requirement, the course is also suitable for students with A level arts/humanities subjects or equivalent.

Introduction

The University offers four Foundation Degree courses concerned with the provision of skills and knowledge used in the development of computer-based systems.

FdSc Computing is suitable for you if you are interested in the development and implementation of computer systems within a commercial environment, and if you ultimately aspire to a supervisory or management role. The course covers all the fundamental computing areas of programming, systems design, hardware, networks and databases. At the end, you will be able to work in programming, support or any of a wide range of computer-based jobs.

Career Opportunities

The breadth of the course allows graduates to follow a wide range of careers such as computer programmers, systems analysts and technical support engineers and can lead to supervisory and managerial posts or any of a wide range of computer-based jobs.

Further Studies
If you achieve a reasonable grade from this course you have the opportunity to continue for a further year to study for an honours degree, BSc(Hons) Computing Studies.

GCSE and AS Level Mathematics Bridging Courses
If you do not have the minimum mathematics entry requirement for your chosen course we offer a free Mathematics Bridging Course. Available during the summer it enables successful students to apply for entry on to these courses. You can progress at your own pace which results in a very high success rate.
