Welcome to the School of Education and Professional Development.
We have been training teachers for over 60 years and we currently enrol over 4,000 students a year.
Many are adults returning to education involved in part-time study, both at the University and at over thirty centres throughout the north of England in a unique partnership, the Consortium for Post-Compulsory Education and training.
If you would like to apply for a course, please request a prospectus. We also have a Course Guide and a student welcome pack, sent to all new students as they start a course.
The School is a growing and vibrant part of the University of Huddersfield.
We offer a wide range of courses, primarily in education and youth work. Our courses are characterised by flexible study options, work-based learning and professional development.
The largest area of our work is teacher, lecturer and tutor training. We offer primary and secondary school, further education, college and higher education training for people looking to work in the area or needing to gain recognised teaching qualifications, including Cert. Ed, BA and PGCEs. If you are interested in a career in teaching, our website includes a guide to entering teaching.
Our students are mainly part-time and/or those returning to education after a long period away from study. We provide high levels of support. We have an academic skills tutor working full-time in the School. Many of our part-time students are sponsored by their employers, reflecting their support for the staff development of their employees and of our courses.
Our students tell us that they like our courses, the quality of our teaching and the support they receive from our highly skilled teaching staff (National Student Survey 2007). Ofsted, QAA and the National Youth Agency have all inspected our courses.
We wish you every success in finding a suitable course and hope to welcome you in the near future.
