An active researcher who has published widely, in the past Dr Sanderson developed collaborative work with Zambia which supported a programme of training for youth workers and has more recently worked with colleagues and partners in Beijing and Guangdong, China. He supervises a number of international doctoral students and is editor of the Journal of Vocational Education and Training (JVET).

There is an International Study Centre (ISC) located on the University campus and they can offer degree preparation courses for international students who do not yet qualify for direct entry to undergraduate or postgraduate degrees.
