Division of Criminology, Politics and Sociology

Dr Chris GiffordWe are a leading social science Division, offering a vibrant environment for students, researchers, and lecturers in Criminology, Politics and Sociology. The quality of our teaching is demonstrated by consistently high levels of student satisfaction, our success in wining National Teaching Fellowships and the success of our graduates in their chosen fields.

Our fundamental goal is to enable students to be highly successful in their studies and to be confident about their capacity to contribute to society. All our programmes include work-placements and professional learning opportunities. The Division has established excellent links and partnerships with organizations across West Yorkshire, including the police, local government and the third sector. Our aim is to connect the local to the global through our relationships with Universities across the world and to enable students to benefit from these through our study abroad opportunities.

We pride ourselves on working closely with students, providing innovative and research led teaching. Each course comprises core modules that cover the essentials of a discipline and are combined with specialist options that draw upon the expert knowledge of academic staff internationally recognised for their research. In these pages you will find details of course structures, modules, how we teach, examples of excellence in research and teaching and, most importantly, what our students and graduates say about us.
