Psychology at Huddersfield has changed, in our recently revised courses there is greater emphasis on choice and practical applications. The new and exciting courses, single honours or with criminology or with counselling, have traditional psychology as a core but now have a strong emphasis on areas such as Forensic, Developmental, Educational, Counselling psychology, and Neuroscience. All delivered by an experienced and highly enthusiastic team from a variety of research backgrounds from our dedicated psychology research centres (CAPR, IRCIP). Every module has been redesigned so that it is research driven and encompasses the latest theories and cutting edge practical sessions.
There is also the opportunity to study abroad at New Paltz, which is part of the State University of New York (SUNY), and gain an insight into psychology from a different cultural and social background. This usually takes place in the second year of a degree, there are a limited number of places on this programme and they will be offered on a competitive basis. The division will be awarding scholarships to those students that are offered a place.
Every time there is a major incident in society the same questions always seem to be asked:
By studying psychology you will gain an insight into why people behave in certain ways, this will be from a variety of perspectives, i.e. biological, cognitive, and social, so that you will gain a broader understanding of the nature of human behaviour.
A degree in Psychology provides you with a very large and varied skills base, both technical and analytically. You will be able to design and conduct your own research to investigate any area of psychology. This also gives you a big advantage for further study, MSc or PhD, and many of the competencies needed for employment.
