Challenges in Wound Care

Following a successful bid for school innovation funding in July 2005 Caroline McIntosh and Karen Ousey, Principal Lecturer in Acute and Critical Nursing, have collaborated to produce an interactive educational CD-Rom aimed at both undergraduate and post-graduate student podiatrists and nurses.

The CD focuses on common challenges in wound care; pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers and infected wounds.

Interactive elements allow users to make autonomous decisions in a safe environment whilst identifying individual learning needs.

The CD is evidence based promoting best practice in wound care thus linking theory to practice. Additionally the CD encourages interprofessional understanding and learning specifically for nurses and podiatrists.

This innovation has led to presentation at a national wounds conference, a peer reviewed journal article (Wounds UK) and presentation at two international conferences in Prague, Czech Republic and Yokohama, Japan.
