Qualifications: Diploma in Care Management, BA In Social and Community Care (1st Class Hons), MRes in Research Methods for the Social Sciences, Ph.D (ESRC Case Award) all at the University of Bradford.

Background

Dr Dawn Clarke joined the University of Huddersfield in 2007. Prior to that she began her research career at the University of Bradford where she completed her first degree, the main focus of which was domestic abuse (DA). During this time she was also responsible for developing and delivering training to raise awareness about DA to the Metropolitan Police Force in the local divisions.  After which her professional background spanned across both the statutory and voluntary sectors, in which she worked in child protection and housing support as both a front – line worker and a trainer. It was the policies and practices of these services that became the research focus of her doctorate in which she explored the impact of the Supporting People Programme on women survivors of domestic abuse; this was completed in 2007. Currently she is a Research Fellow on the REQUALLO project which is producing web based re – usable learning objects for doing qualitative data analysis - see onlineqda@hud.ac.uk. She also works on the Climbie project to develop a web based coded data set using the Climbie inquiry data corpus to create materials to teach, learn about and research social work practices specifically in child protection.

Domestic abuse and: the State; professional knowledge and practices in health and social care and their impact on the individual; child protection and support services both statutory and voluntary and their impact on mothering; forced marriage specifically in the Pakistani (Mirpuri) communities; education for effective qualitative data analysis.
