Background

Richard joined the department in September 2009. Previously he worked in the Department of Politics at the University of Sheffield, where he also lectured at the Institute for Lifelong Learning. He teaches a range of courses at Huddersfield including Development, European Politics, and Policy and Society. His PhD, awarded by the University of Sheffield, examines contemporary Conservative politics, and he is currently developing this into a monograph. Richard is an Associate of the Higher Education Academy, and has published articles on British party politics, Conservative politics, national identity in Britain, and higher education politics teaching.

Current Teaching Responsibilities

Richard is currently module leader and lecturer for:

  • Policy and Society (Level 1)
  • Competing Perspectives on Development (Level 2)
  • Citizenship in the Community (Level 2)
  • The Politics of Europe and the European Union (Level 3)
  • Workplace Management and Leadership (Level 3 distance learning)

He also supervises students on the Masters in Research (MRes) and MA in Public Sector Modernisation Programmes.
