Applying to the University

Applying for a course - two simple steps

The application deadline for September 2010 is 31 July 2010.  Applications submitted after this date will be considered for September 2011.

The application deadline for January 2011 is 26 November 2010.  Applications submitted after this date will be considered for September 2011.

This page only applies to full-fee paying international students and not European students from within the EU. Students from the EU should apply here.

Please also check our entry requirements.

We try to make the application process as simple as we can for you.

We will need to know about your previous studies and your English language qualifications.

1) If you have already completed your studies, you just need to apply to us and send copies of your certificates. The Course Tutor will assess your application and should be able to make you an Unconditional Offer*.

If you have not completed your studies, apply to us now and the Course Tutor will asses your application and make a Conditional Offer.

When you complete your studies, just send us copies of your certificates and we should then be able to make you an Unconditional Offer.

2) Once you have met all your conditions we will then send you a Letter of Acceptance which will enable you to obtain a visa for study in the UK. We will then book accommodation for you and arrange a taxi to collect you from Manchester Airport (only 30 minutes).

*Please note that an unconditional offer can be made for the course but there may be non-academic conditions that may need to be met.

Meet and Greet service

The University operates a low-cost pickup service from Manchester Airport.  If you wish to use the service we will be glad to arrange for you to be met at the airport.  Please contact international.office@hud.ac.uk for further details including costs and payments.

If you don't wish to avail yourself of the official meet and greet service you will find that Huddersfield is very easy to reach from Manchester International Airport, with regular direct trains running to the town.  The railway timetable can be accessed at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/

Deposits

The University requires applicants from outside the EU to submit a deposit against tuition fees as a condition of their offers. The amount of the deposit may vary from country to country, but will be indicated clearly on initial offer letters issued by the University.

Please note that visa support documentation will not be issued until the required deposit has been received and cleared.

We believe that the deposit scheme assists genuine applicants to demonstrate to the British Embassy or High Commission that they are bona fide students, whose only intention of seeking entry to the UK is to follow a full-time course of study at the University of Huddersfield.

The University recommends that you apply through one of our local representatives in your country to ensure your application runs smoothly.

Payment Options

Payment may be made by electronic transfer, bankers draft (demand draft), cheque drawn on a UK bank account, debit card, credit card, or cash (the latter method is recommended only when a relative, friend or other reliable contact in the UK can personally supervise the transaction by visiting the University. Under no circumstances should cash be mailed to the University).

In the case of payments made by credit card, we ask applicants to note that the clearance period can be lengthy and it may take six months or longer before the release of visa support letters can be authorised. We would suggest that you use another means of payment if you do not wish your documentation to be delayed.

Conditions

Please note that by accepting the offer of a place you are agreeing to the conditions of the University’s deposit scheme.

You are strongly recommended not to attempt to make payment by fraudulent means as we will not hesitate to take appropriate action against applicants where there is evidence of deception.

  1. The deposit scheme applies to non-EEA applicants to sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the University of Huddersfield.
  2. Non-EEA applicants living in the UK may be asked to submit a deposit under the terms of offers made.
  3. Refunds will only be made in the event of visa refusal. Documentary proof of this must be submitted to the International Office.
  4. Offers will be immediately withdrawn from candidates whose deposit payments are dishonoured.
  5. The University reserves the right to advise the appropriate British High Commission or Embassy in the event of dishonoured payments.

In turn, the University undertakes to ensure that all paperwork is issued promptly to enable applicants to commence the process of obtaining a student visa.
