Pre-Sessional English Programme

international studentsThese are some of the comments from previous Pre-Sessional English Programme students, but the facts speak for themselves:

  • 95% of Pre-Sessional students continue onto their chosen academic courses.
  • Students say the trips and social activities are very interesting and useful in developing an understanding of British culture and university life.
  • All students have found the Pre-Sessional staff very approachable and helpful.
  • 100% of students found the Pre-Sessional English Programme to be well–organised

*based on formal questionnaires completed by all Pre-Sessional students in previous years.

As you can see from these comments, the Pre-Sessional English Programme, which takes place during the summer each year, will help you to prepare both academically and socially for your degree studies at British university.

Of course, it is important to prepare for the work you have to do but it is also a proven opportunity to develop a network of friends and contacts who might support you during your whole period of study.

There are many advantages to be gained from taking part in the Pre-Sessional English Programme. If you decide to join us in the summer you will:

  • Learn how to produce well-structured and clearly expressed written and spoken assignments for a variety of subjects
  • Develop understanding of the university’s expectations
  • Maximise your chances of achieving very good grades on your degree
  • Improve your English grammar, academic language and skills
  • Have time to settle in to the university and Huddersfield before your main programme
  • Become more familiar with British life and culture
  • Make friends!

Entry Requirements

If you are interested in joining our Pre-Sessional English Programme you need to have an IELTS score of 5.0 for the 8-week course or 5.5 for the 4-week course.

You must also be holding a conditional offer for a British degree course which has the academic condition of achieving an IELTS score of 6.0.

If you work hard and complete the Pre-Sessional English Programme successfully, the University of Huddersfield will consider you as equal to IELTS 6.0 for degree course entry.
