Post-study work

What is this?

From 30 June 2008 the UK Border Agency announced the start of the new Post-Study Work scheme which replaces the International Graduate Scheme (IGS).

The scheme, part of the Tier 1 Points Based System allows international students (non-EU) to apply to stay and work in the UK for up to two years following graduation from a UK university. We understand that you are keen to build on your high-quality academic qualification with a period of work experience.

To apply under the points-based system and be accepted into post-study work category, applicants must pass a points-based assessment. Applicants must score:

  • 75 points for 'attributes': a UK qualification, study at a UK institution, having immigration status during UK study and/or research, and date of the qualification: and
  • 10 points for English language: and
  • 10 points for available funds.

Full details of the scheme can be found on the Home Office or UKCISA web pages.

Alternatively, please email our Student Services department for further information.

The University also provides comprehensive careers guidance for students which i also available through the Student Services web pages.
