“I discovered the University of Huddersfield when a representative from Huddersfield visited my home city to interview students. It was my dream to pursue higher education in the UK because of its high standards. Courses in the UK encourage independence, creativity and most importantly self-reliance.

“I was very happy to learn that the University of Huddersfield offered my course and that it promotes a low cost of living. Huddersfield is one of the best places I have visited so far which offers good value for money.

“The modules on my course were exactly what I was looking for in an Engineering degree. The University offers very good facilities in terms of labs, library, staff and many more.

“I have never been out of India before, however I felt very comfortable from the very first day because my tutors and other University staff were so friendly and supportive. Living alone in a new country can be very daunting but for me it was a chance to explore myself and have greeted this with an enormous thrill.

“One of the best things about the University of Huddersfield is the number of International scholarship awards available. The University recognises the efforts made by the students and provides various opportunities for students to pursue their higher education from which ever background they are.”

“After I completed my Bachelor degree in Hotel Management, I gained some work with an international hotel chain in India as an Assistant Sales Manager. However, I decided to complete my Master’s degree in the UK and my previous institution had a link with the University of Huddersfield.

“Huddersfield is the biggest town in the UK and is self sufficient for student life, everything you need is easily available. The campus is huge and the new buildings are very impressive. It is a good sign to see how serious the University are about their students with all the investment on campus.

“The tutors are the biggest asset of the University as they are always ready to help and make themselves available to meet you out of class hours to discuss your work. The MBA tutors are of high quality, well informed and motivated.”

"The University is a place I love because of its high reputation and amount of international students studying here. I have made many friends from different countries. The library is well stocked and there is a 24-hour computer lab which is available to all students. My tutors are very dedicated and approachable whenever I need them.

“My sister also did her Master’s at the University of Huddersfield and recommended it as a good place to study. What was also important was meeting my tutor during her visit to India who was so supportive and was very patient with me when I had questions.

“Huddersfield is a beautiful town in the north of England near to Manchester and Leeds. It offers a good student experience as everything is made available within the town and there are good transport links to the bigger cities. It is a very multi-cultural place with students from all over the world studying here.

“My course has helped me to gain general business knowledge and the latest information systems tools and techniques. I have also gained experience needed in terms of leadership position and profession in the information systems field.

“The campus offers very good facilities especially the new library which also has a 24/7 computing centre. The labs have very good opening hours and have all the latest equipment. The staff are very friendly and approachable whenever you need to speak to them.

“My course offered a more practical and professionally-orientated experience that was very attractive to me. The University of Huddersfield has a high reputation for analytical chemistry and has a broad range of facilities needed for this course. The Chemistry department has a very good teaching faculty and tutors who are always available to help you whenever you may need them without compromising the standard of study.

“I feel at home in Huddersfield just like my friend who had studied here told me. It is a good place to live and study."

“After doing some travelling and gaining some valuable work experience in Mumbai which was a good decision,  I gained a deep understanding of balancing the commercial context with creativity.

“From this I decided to create my own design agency, Comma Design.”

“I wanted to study in the UK because of its high standards of excellence. The University of Huddersfield offered the perfect match with the modules on offer with this course. I was looking to enhance my skill set and find a course which would enrich me with IT and Business Studies.

“The University offered me hands on practical training on various Businesses and IT modules with seminars, presentations, and coursework and group assessments in practice. All the lectures and seminars were at a very good level and kept me interested.

“I was especially happy with facilities at the University including the 24-hour computer lab access which was very handy to give an edge to study on flexible hours. The Multimedia labs and library were well equipped with the latest software and books to provide us with latest information possible.

“Since graduating I have gained work with an outsourcing company in Leeds as Microsoft’s AX Analyst and believe becoming a university student was a wealth of opportunity and experience. I enjoyed pretty much meeting new people, making new friends and becoming more educated.”

Nilesh Shah

Nilesh Shah studied Sports Therapy within the School of Human and Health Sciences.

Hailing from Mumbai, Nilesh graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Commerce from Lala Lajpat Rai College. Following this he decided to pursue his dream into the field of physical fitness.

"As I continued to study, I found my perspective changing, although my goal remained the same. No longer did I see fitness as 'the body beautiful' and so I wanted to study the anatomy from various angles. I realised the hostilic approach was necessary to solve problems".

He then developed skills to begin study for Sports Therapy. "My aim is to become a good, complete, confident, compassionate Sports Therapist without losing my intuitive side".

Nilesh came to Huddersfield after visiting a UK study exhibition in Mumbai and has began to adapt to life in the UK ever since. "The best thing about coming here is the amount of new friends I have made from so many different countries, the people are very friendly here"


Dhaval Shah

Dhaval Shah

Dhaval Shah graduated from the University of Huddersfield with a BA(Hons) Marketing degree.

Having studied in his home land of India, Dhaval decided to take on the 'adventure' of studying in the UK. He came to Huddersfield in 2000 from Mumbai after attending a student recruitment exhibition fair. He gained a place on the International Foundation Year programme before going on to study for a BA (Hons) Marketing degree.

"I gained a lot of skills from studying in Huddersfield and the chance to interact with people from all over the world. The course has embedded creative and innovative skills in me and I am very grateful to my course tutors who were very helpful. Without them I would have never been able to achieve the position I am today".

Dhaval is currently a Director of his family business in Mumbai manufacturing electrical products and accessories and hopes to expand in the future on a global scale.

Hari Prasad Jgiti from Tirupathi in India graduated with an MSc in Automotive Systems Design and Analysis from the University.

"When I finished my Mechanical Engineering course in my home land I met with Huddersfield Engineering lecturer who was giving a seminar. I chose Huddersfield as it's a popular University for Automotive Design and the town is very affordable with a low cost of living.

"When I arrived in Huddersfield, I found the town to be so friendly and peaceful with lots of Indian restaurants. It is very close to the cities of Manchester and Leeds with good night life. The campus is very beautiful and cosy with a good library and facilities. It is also very close to the town centre and public transport.

I found the tutors very friendly, approachable and experienced. They seem to have good knowledge of Indian students and understand the difference in educational systems. My tutor also helped me find a work placement and industrial projects."

Hari is now a CFD Engineer for Railways at a UK company after graduating in 2003 and is looking to build on his experience to eventually start up his own business.

Karthik Manivachagam graduated from the University with an MSc in Automotive Systems Design and Analysis.

Originally from Hyderabad, Karthik came to Huddersfield because of the reputation the Engineering department has in the UK. "there is a huge demand for people with qualifications in this field of work back in India and Huddersfield offered exactly the course I needed with up to date knowledge of what is required from students in order to work in the automotive sector".

Since graduating, Karthik has secured a job as a Research Analyst in Chennai which involves working with international automotive companies across Europe.

"It has taken some patience to secure this job but I believe the quality of my tutors at Huddersfield have contributed to my success and I want to say 'thank you' to them all".


Mohammed Burhanuddin

Mohammed Burhanuddin

Mohammed Burhanuddin from Hyderabad studied Engineering Control Systems and Instrumentation at the University.

“I liked the fact that I could complete this degree in one year and that the UK offered international students a one-year work permit to build up some useful work experience. Huddersfield offered the right course with low living and tuition costs. It was nice that they offered a Job shop on campus to students, so you can work while studying.

“Huddersfield is one of the best towns in the UK with people from all different cultural backgrounds and nice Asian community. It also offers good campus facilities and transport links to bigger cities. My tutors were so friendly and helped me enjoy my time on campus.”

Mohammed initially worked as a Software Consultant for Sony Ericsson mobile communications in the UK and within a year is now working for Siemens VGI Metals Technologies in the region as an Assistant Project Engineer.

Munawar Ali Mohammed, from Hyderabad, graduated with a Masters degree in Engineering Design and its Management.

Having studied BEng Mechanical Engineering at Osmania University in India, Munawar decided that he wanted to aim for a better education in the UK. "I came to Huddersfield because they offered exactly the course I wanted and that the Engineering School is at the forefront of technology.

"Initially I was very scared about studying abroad but when I arrived in Huddersfield I was very grateful to the University who offered a 'Meet and Greet' pick up service that drops you off at your accommodation and help you settle in. Since I arrived here, it has very quickly felt like home. I have made so many nice friends and the tutors have been fantastic.

"I believe that the excellent support from both technicians and tutors will help me gain employment within design and manufacturing. Once I have gained some experience I would like to begin my PhD".

Saadullah Hussain Mohammed

Saadullah Hussain Mohammed from Hyderabad graduated from the University after completing the MSc Engineering Control Systems and Instrumentation.

"After completing my degree from Osmania University in India, I decided to come to the UK because of the quality of education. I liked that Huddersfield offered my degree over a one year period and discovered via the web that the University had a strong reputation in this area.

"I also learned that Huddersfield has a vast multi-cultural society and that the cost of living was low. At the time, the British government were offering international students a 12-month work permit after graduation which I found very useful to build up some strong work experience.

"I had never been away from India before and initially found it difficult but I quickly developed and maintained a good professional relationship with all my peers and tutors. The valued support and guidance I got from my tutors was exceptional. I never felt away from home as the local people are very friendly and there is a nice Asian population in the town."

Sadullah is now working as a Graduate Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer in the UK.

Shashank Thati, from Hyderabad completed his MSc Internet and Enterprise Systems at the University.

After studying Information Technology in Chennai, Shashank decided to study overseas. "I have a lot of friends who are now graduates from Huddersfield and said what a great time they had here. Also the University offered exactly the course I wanted, so the decision was made very easy for me".

"Since I have arrived here, the tutors have been great and are very knowledgeable about their subject area. I also like the fact that the library is well stocked, especially for students who have their dissertation to do and the University has a 24-hour computing centre for all students."

Following graduation, Shashank will be applying for the Post Study scheme to gain some work in computers in the UK.
