Qualification Equivalences accepted for applications to the Patrick Stewart Scholarships
Please read this section carefully. You should not make an application for a scholarship if you do not meet the criteria shown below. The details given on this page are for general guidance as it is not possible to include equivalences for all countries. If your country is not included on the list and you believe that your qualification is equivalent to those required for the Scholarships, send a query to international-scholarships@hud.ac.uk and we will respond to advise whether you should apply.
Postgraduate applicants
Applicants must hold or expect to achieve a UK 2:1 honours degree or equivalent

Grade B or 85% or above in a bachelor degree

Bachelor degree, minimum Second Class, Higher Division (2:1)

Bachelor degree, minimum First Class with maximum of 5% fails. Qualification from a public university, a college affiliated to a public university, or a private university recognised by the Indian Government’s University Grants Commission

Bachelor degree, minimum Second Class, Higher Division (2:1)

| Malaysia |
Bachelor degree, minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

| Nigeria |
Bachelor degree, minimum GPA of 3.25 or 65%

B.E. (Hons) or BSc in Engineering (Hons) (4 year)

A minimum overall grade of 60% (First Division) or above is comparable to UK 2:1 for the above combinations. The qualification should have been gained from a private or public university recognised by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan

Undergraduate applicants
Applicants must hold or expect to achieve minimum grades of UK BBB at ‘A’ level or international equivalent (e.g. IB 32 points; marks of 60% or above in recognised access programme)

Over 80% in High School certificate and either 85% or above in first year at Chinese university or marks of 60% or above in recognised foundation/access programme

A minimum of one year of university education and high grades on WASSCE/SSSCE (16 or less including six subjects, with A1-C6 in English

Over 80% in Grade XII when awarded by CBSE or ICSE boards. 70% if Grade XII is awarded by West Bengal Board or 85% or above when awarded by State Boards or BBB if Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ISCE)

A minimum of one year university education plus KCSE grades B/C evenly distributed in at least 10 subjects or BBB in Cambridge Higher School Certificate

English Language Requirements
Applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in English. The following list, which refers to the minimum acceptable levels to be considered for the Patrick Stewart Scholarships, includes the most common English Language qualifications. The list is not exclusive, and if you have a recognised English Language qualification which is not shown below and which you believe to be equivalent to IELTS, TOEFL, etc., please contact us at international-scholarships@hud.ac.uk to request further advice and we will respond to advise whether you should apply.
