Guidance for applicants

  • Please check the application deadlines and read the notes regarding eligibility for the awards.
  • Applicants must be classified as full fee-paying students of non-EU nationality.
  • Applicants must have already applied to the University of Huddersfield and received an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree course.
  • The Scholarships are not available to students applying to join the International Foundation Programme.
  • Please ensure that the application form is completed in full and that the original Statement of Purpose is complete and within the word limit.
  • You will receive an automatic response to acknowledge successful completion of the online application.  This is an acknowledgement of receipt only and must be taken as such.
  • Please note that only successful applicants will be contacted.  If you have not heard from us by the notification date you may assume that your application has not been shortlisted.

Eligibility and general regulations

  • The Scholarships are to be awarded to full-fee paying students of non-EU nationality applying to study full-time at the University of Huddersfield (at our main campus in Huddersfield or the University Centres at Oldham and Barnsley)
  • The Scholarships will be awarded in the form of full or partial waivers against tuition fees.
  • Applicants who are in receipt of any donor funding (e.g. ORSAS, DFID, Chevening awards), School bursaries or other University awards will not be eligible for Patrick Stewart Scholarships
  • The Scholarship scheme is competitive and all applications will be considered on merit.  Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic performance which they are able to evidence within their course applications.  The University reserves the right to request further evidence where necessary.
  • Candidates for the Scholarship applying for undergraduate courses must have minimum grades of BBB at A level or international equivalent
  • Candidates applying for postgraduate courses must hold or expect to achieve a UK 2:1 honours degree or equivalent
  • Two references are required in support of the applicant’s academic standing
  • The application requires a detailed and original Statement of Purpose (500 words) which should set the applicant’s academic achievements in a personal and professional context. 
  • Applicants must have a formal qualification in English Language ( i.e. IELTS, TOEFL or other acceptable measure).
  • The submission of falsified or counterfeit documents will disqualify the applicant from consideration.  Personal statements which are found to be plagiarised or copied will also result in disqualification.
  • Incomplete application forms will not be considered
  • The deadline for submission of applications is 31 March 2009.  Applications will not be considered after that date.
  • Decisions will be notified to successful applicants by 30 April 2009.
  • The decision of the awarding panel is final.  We regret that we are unable to enter into correspondence relating to unsuccessful applications.
  • By accepting a Patrick Stewart scholarship, the applicant agrees to participate in publicity initiatives and gives consent to his/her photograph appearing in marketing literature including webpages.
