Auditions take place across the teaching year, but mainly between November and the end of March. They are held on Wednesday afternoons. You will receive a letter giving you a date and we ask you to confirm your attendance or we will arrange a different date if you cannot attend. We will give you no less than two weeks notice of the date.
The interviews are conducted by individual members of the Music academic and performance staff and are an opportunity for us to get to know you as a musician, both in terms of technical level now and potential for future development. We usually ask you to attend at 12.30pm, when you will be welcomed by the Admissions Tutor or by one of the members of full-time staff. Coffee and biscuits will be provided during a short presentation on our courses and an opportunity to ask questions.
We will write to you within ten days with our decision on your place and on your suitability for studying performance as part of your course; if you would like a quicker response, you are welcome to telephone the admissions tutor in person.
Music holds ten auditions days between December and March each academic year, all on Wednesday afternoons. Applicants are sent a suitable date approximately three weeks before their audition is scheduled to take place.

Keep checking the Music department website for information about new opportunities within the course, news about the Creative Arts Building and student achievements, and for information about instrumental tutors. You should feel to email or phone the admissions tutor (or other member of staff) if you have any questions or queries at any time across the year, though email is probably the best way to get a quick response (Staff contact details can be found here).
You will receive 'joining instructions' from the University admissions office in July, which will tell you term dates and other details, and which will include some suggestions for summer reading or listening to prepare for your course.
If you are taking A Levels your results will be sent to us automatically and, if you reach the required grades, we will confirm your place on results day in August.
If you are taking an Access course or have other qualifications you will need to tell us your results in order that we can confirm your place. BTEC qualifications often come through very slowly; if you receive your final results, please feel free to post us a copy directly so that we can confirm your place as soon as possible. If you have been asked to pass a Graded Theory or Practical exam (e.g. Grade 6 Theory, Grade 8 Practical), you will need to arrange to take this examination yourself, and post or fax us a copy of your transcript or certificate, as we will not find this information out automatically.
The Music Subject Area Leader will write to you in early September to welcome you to the University of Huddersfield. The letter will have a programme for freshers' week (also known as induction week), and some information about the social events organised by HUMSS (Huddersfield University Music Students' Society).
