Devastated Childhoods

Perceptions of, Attitudes to and Opinions on Child Sexual Abuse in the Eastern Caribbean

A groundbreaking research project under the direction of Professor Adele Jones (Principal Investigator), Professor of Childhood Studies at the University of Huddersfield, and Ena Trotman Jemmott (Second Principal Investigator), a consultant working for Action for Children.

The study arises out of a joint programming initiative (UNICEF, UNIFEM in partnership with the respective governments) aimed at reducing sexual violence against children. The need for this research is based on recognition that social programmes to prevent and address child sexual abuse must be based on comprehensive knowledge of the situations, behaviours and attitudes that contribute to its existence.

The following Eastern Caribbean countries welcomed and took part in this initiative and are committed to this research project:
