One of our teaching laboratoriesChemistry has been taught at the University of Huddersfield for over 160 years. Making us not only one of the longest standing courses in the University but also one of the oldest Chemistry courses in the country.

Originally our courses were based around training chemists for the local textile and dye industries. Today our courses build on this tradition, still providing graduates with all the key knowledge and laboratory skills required to be professional chemists in the modern world. The chemical industry is one of the most important industrial sectors in the UK and there is a high demand for qualified chemistry graduates to work in the major petroleum, pharmaceutical manufacturing and analytical companies. Chemists from Huddersfield are regularly part of this.

The Royal Society of Chemistry accredits our MChem course and recognises our BSc courses, emphasising the quality of the undergraduate courses we provide.

Research is also key to our work and the division has excellent research laboratories, working and applying new ideas in many aspects of the subject.
