Pharmaceutical Science

The pharmaceutical industry is an exciting and challenging industry responsible for discovering and producing a wide range of medicines. The aim of the course is to prepare students to work in this industry from initial drug design and discovery all the way through to formulating the final product and licensing.

The course covers a diverse range of topics including pharmacology, analytical science and dosage form design. Pharmaceutical science is a degree programme ideal for students who wish to learn how to design and make pharmaceutical products to prevent and treat a range of medical problems.

The Pharmaceutical Science degrees are recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), including a recent revalidation in 2008, confirming the high academic standards of the course. Recognition by the RSC ensures that the degree satisfies the admission requirements for the category of associate member (AMRSC). With this, and at least three years postgraduate experience, it is then possible to transfer up to MRSC status and from here apply for the award of Chartered Chemist.

Graduates will find opportunities for careers in industry and research. To become a pharmacist you should study a pharmacy degree (MPharm).
