Student Tutoring Scheme

What is the Student Tutoring Scheme?

The Student Tutoring Scheme involves University of Huddersfield students undertaking a voluntary placement at a local primary, secondary or special school. Placements are arranged in the local area although students who live further afield are given the option of finding their own placement.

Student tutors attend their allocated school for 10 half-day sessions or the equivalent period by mutual agreement.

What do Student Tutors do?

Students act as classroom assistants, helping and supporting teachers during class time.

Why get involved?

The scheme is extremely valuable for all concerned:

Schools:

  • Receive an extra pair of hands with new ideas brought to the classroom.
  • The school's students can learn about University life.
  • The aspirations of school students are raised.

Student Tutors:

  • Have the opportunity to develop key skills and improve existing ones.
  • Are provided with the opportunity to perform a valuable role within the community.
  • Gain invaluable work experience to add to their CV and improve their chances of obtaining a PGCE place.

Information for prospective students

Upon successful completion of placement (minimum of 10 half-days) student tutors receive a certificate to confirm participation.
