Rob Lycett

Biography

Rob Lycett has a professional background in graphic design, photography and printed textiles. He was born in North Staffordshire, but now lives in the upper Calder Valley near Hebden Bridge.

Research & Scholarship

In my creative practice I often explore the visual (graphic) potential of various technological processes (generative computer programmes, GPS data, real-time human interaction). This visual experimentation was concerned with acts of drawing and was called ‘draw()’ and ‘re:draw’ – in the form of books, digital video and real-time computer graphics. This work began during my masters studies, where I explored the use of site specific GPS data in a series of exhibited installations. ‘re:draw’ was supported by the Arts Council in 2006.

My current personal work concerns memory and narrative in relation to place. I’m writing fragmentary narratives, which are to become a series of short films (digital video and animation).

In 2004 I founded ‘Digital Arts [North]’ – an organisation, based in Halifax, which aimed to promote digital arts practice in the region. In 2007 I decided to concentrate on my own creative practice.
