Studying at the University of Huddersfield means you’ll be somewhere that’s going from strength to strength in academic achievements, enterprise and levels of student satisfaction.
The place to start
Whatever you aim to do in life, it pays to get a good education. And that’s exactly what you can expect from the University of Huddersfield.
Whether you are leaving school or college or returning to education after a period of work or raising a family, we can help you achieve your goals.
If you're looking to enhance your career prospects or simply want to study for the sheer pleasure of learning, welcome to the perfect place to start.
Top quality
We offer high quality teaching with a strongly vocational emphasis. In fact, we were ranked joint first out of all Yorkshire universities for high quality staff and lectures in the Opinionpanel Research survey in 2007.
We’re also among the UK’s top five providers of ‘sandwich courses’ where students undertake a paid work placement in industry or commerce. That’s one of the reasons why we’ve got an impressive record for graduate employment. It’s a direct result of our practical and vocational approach, combining real work experience with high academic standards.
Every year over 800 students take part in sandwich year placements in industry or commerce and another 1,400 take part in some form of shorter placement scheme.
We have a strong research profile, excellent grades for teaching quality and an impressive record for graduate employment.
Research strengths
Huddersfield has an international reputation for History, Music, Social Work, Engineering and Chemistry. Our Centre for Precision Technologies is widely regarded as the best in the UK and one of the top three in Europe. Our new sonic research lab for music students will be the first of its kind in England. The University is further developing its research and enterprise through significant new investment including the appointment of 20 new Professors.
Enterprise
We place great emphasis on enterprise and employability. As both the private sector and public services increasingly contract-out many of their operations, it pays to adopt a self-reliant and independent approach.
We aim to give our students a competitive edge by honing their entrepreneurial and business skills. Opened by Sir Alan Sugar in 2000, the Huddersfield Business Generator, an innovative pre-business incubator, has created over 200 new businesses and exceeded its 75% target business survival rate.
The University’s Business Mine is an on-campus facility that provides a professional environment for students and alumni to try out their business ideas with the support of a business mentor. With a full enterprise support programme to provide the necessary skills, the use of computing and telecommunications equipment, a business library, hot-desking and a supportive networking environment to help you develop a successful business, it’s no wonder we have supported the development of some very successful businesses.
