The majority of undergraduate courses offered within the Business School offer the Sandwich route. The placement year is carried out in the third year of a sandwich degree programme, allowing students to gain valuable practical experience of the academic theory they have acquired in the first two years of their course. There is a dedicated Placement Unit within the School supporting students/ employers and staff throughout the whole placement year process.
The University is among the UK’s top ten providers of courses that contain paid work placements. Our research shows that students who take advantage of the opportunity of a 48-week work placement, or even a shorter time in industry or commerce, are better prepared to enter the job market. At Huddersfield we don’t charge tuition fees for the placement year. So, students can earn during their placement and they won’t have to put that money towards any fees during the year.
*International students ( i.e. non-EU) are charged at a reduced rate. For details contact the Placement Unit.

Paul MacLeod I would recommend a placement to any students who have the opportunity to take part in one. I feel that I have benefited greatly from being given a full role and responsibilities in the field in which I am studying. I believe this year has given me a better understanding of the marketing industry going into my final year, and will also put me in a strong position when looking for a job once I have completed my degree. |
A chance for employers to meet with the students to promote placements within their organisation.
A new initiative has been set up to recognise the important role that the placement year plays by introducing an award for an exceptional placement student from each department within the School. Find out more here.

“Having employed undergraduates from other universities in the past, I have been pleasantly surprised by the systems in place at the university to support placement students and their employers. I am also very pleased with the contribution that our current placement student is making to the college’s marketing programme.”
